Purdue’s loss to Indiana on Wednesday night was definitely shocking. It wasn’t shocking that Purdue lost. That was expected. It was shocking by how much it lost by, 37.
Purdue scored 60 points. It looks to me at least that, in the past couple years in recruiting, Matt Painter has focused a little too much on recruiting defensive type players instead of players that can score and shoot. If it wasn’t completely obvious that Purdue needed at least one more shooter on this team up until Wednesday night, well, it screamed at you following it.
Read this little fun fact:
With the loss, the Boilermakers move to 67-72 under Matt Painter when scoring fewer than 70 points. Under Painter, when Purdue scores 70 plus points, it is 104-15.
That’s all you need to know. It didn’t matter how many points Purdue scored last night, it wasn’t surpassing Indiana’s 97. But I suggest Purdue get some shooters soon. Kendall Stephens, a 2013 commit, appears to one on the way.
